In the time of our current world pandemic, love cannot be canceled, and an elopement now with a big celebration later is the route we are finding many couples going in the local Vancouver, B.C. area, including our bride and groom Hailey and Brent. With careful consideration and thoughtful planning, our bride and groom had to postpone their big wedding day not once but twice, to 2021, and decided to elope with just 5 people in attendance, which also happens to be right on the nose with the legal required amount of guests for an elopement in British Columbia: an officiant, a couple, and two witnesses. I’ve been a witness a few times at weddings and elopements, and it’s always SUCH an intimate honor and pleasure to be an official witness for our couples. There’s something about signing your name on that official paper, like “yep, these two badass humans are totally in love and getting married”.
Hailey and Brent wanted the perfect location for their elopement, somewhere close to Vancouver, B.C., intimate, outdoors, and filled with romantic vibes. I suggested one of go to forest photo locations in Vancouver, B.C., as it has all of that plus it’s in the middle of a forest, so it adds this real woodland critter feel going for it. The bonus of this elopement as well was that there were none of the other normal big events that happen on a wedding day, like a hair and makeup artist, or family formals, or dinner, or anything like that, it was simply about the ceremony and saying I do. With this flexibility in mind, our bride and groom turned to me to let them know the perfect time of the day for their ceremony, where they’d say I do, as a wedding photographer, it was heavenly to be given this task.
Hailey and Brent went above and beyond to ensure that all social distancing guidelines put in place surrounding covid-19 were followed. We had the minimum/maximum in attendance, 5 total, they brought out a tape measure to mark 2 meters apart on the ground from where they’d be standing for their ceremony so that their officiant, myself, and their bestman/other witness, could stand safely apart from them, they brought a bottle of sanitizer and a container of lysol wipes. We all also brought our own pens to sign the wedding/elopement documents, AND they used a hockey stick to pass over the rings during the ceremony, so very Canadian.
Their ceremony was short, sweet, and so emotional. After we all celebrated with some mini bottles of champagne they brought for us & sanitized before handing over, it was such a fun way to celebrate their elopement. Morgan and I will also be shooting Hailey and Brent’s official wedding in 2021, and are SO excited to dance the night away with them and celebrate all over again with them. Something so interesting about wedding photography and videography is you really don’t get repeat clients in the same nature of a wedding day, so during this time of double weddings we are so game to do whatever we can for our brides and grooms and make their wedding day absolutely perfect!
PS a huge shoutout to https://www.christiandoesweddings.com/ for officiating this amazing wedding day.
