I woke up on my 28th birthday (oh wow, 2 years ago now) with my husband Morgan in the small town of Cawston in the Okanagan, bursting with excitement and anticipation to photograph the wedding of two of our closest and sweetest brides and grooms, Chase and Rheann’s, destination wedding.
Rheann and Chase are seriously two of the sweetest humans, and for their wedding their vision was an epic weekend getaway with all their friends and family at a beautiful Okanagan destination, which happened to be at the grooms parents backyard and property. Chase and Rheann welcomed us into their tight circle with open arms, inviting us over for drinks to get to know everyone and see the wedding property the night before, celebrating with us the day after their wedding, they are just the kindest humans.
The day started with Chase and his groomsmen and the dads getting ready at this GIANT trailer, almost like a movie star trailer, sharing shots in the apple orchards along the property, and finishing up last minute details to the ceremony site. Rheann and her bridesmaids got ready at this gorgeous airbnb which they had spent the previous night at, sipping on mimosas, nibbling breakfast, and exchanging stories about the bride with many hilarious and heart filled stories. Rheann drove her bridesmaids and mums in one of the old family trucks to the ceremony, and keeping a tradition alive that came to be at the brides high school graduation, Rheann’s dad welcomed and escorted all the bridesmaids, mother of the bride, and the bride herself out of the truck and down the wedding aisle.
The Grassick property was set up so perfectly for this destination wedding, from beautiful ceremony site including a wooden arch draped in linens and florals with the backdrop of the apple orchards and mountains. The reception space was neatly tucked under a large white outdoor tent, with personalized centerpieces at each round table, along with some eventually much needed, handmade bug spray. Also, the grooms parents created the most epic dance floor space, with tons of bistro lights strung up and plenty of space for everyone to dance the night away.
The wedding ceremony was short, sweet, and filled with so many joyful tears. To celebrate at the end of the ceremony, the entire wedding party poured shots, and so many hugs were shared among themselves, family and friends. A family friend offered up their private property for all the wedding party photos, and oh my god you guys, we were FLOORED with how stunning this property was! The owners of the property were antic collectors, and their expansive property almost felt like an itty bitty destination city tucked all into itself, with small sheds, tons of cool old cars (don’t ask me what they were, hah, I’m terrible with cars) and even an old post office on the property.
The night was filled with so many heart filled speeches, and a wind storm that knocked out all the power for a solid thirty minutes! Thank god, Morg thought to bring his video lights for this wedding, and was able to set them up for the wedding speech givers to have a little spotlight. Eventually the power came back on (I think this was thanks to the generator), and everyone headed to the dancefloor. The bride sat the groom down and surprised him as she whipped out her guitar and sang to him as their first time as a married couple, I swear, there wasn’t a single dry eye in the house! The rest of the night was filled with so much dancing, celebrating, and so much love.
We are so thankful that we got to meet this amazing couple, and photograph this amazing destination wedding in the Okanagan.
